Finalist Teams Awarded $1 Million in XPrize Healthspan Contest to Transform Healthy Aging

The XPrize Healthspan—which will split $101 million among teams developing therapeutics to restore muscle, cognitive, and immune function in older adults—has named 10 teams receiving $1 million each.

The XPrize Healthspan competition has named its top 20 finalist groups that will submit their aging intervention therapies for human trial testing.

Aging &amp; Longevity

Model: Female Balb/c mice exposed to ultraviolet radiation 
Dosage: 2%, 5%, 7.5%, or 12.5% of nicotinamide (weight/volume) applied topically, once daily, five times per week

The NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) precursor nicotinamide prevents skin aging, in part by targeting age-promoting senescent cells in mice. 


Top Evidence-Based Interventions to Lower Biological Age

Epigenetic aging clocks estimate biological age based on DNA molecular tagging patterns, and interventions like semaglutide and ketamine reduce these estimates in humans.

As reviewed in this article, epigenetic aging clocks have estimated the effects of pharmaceutical interventions, lifestyle habits, supplements, and clinical interventions on biological age.

Participants: Healthy, overweight older adults 
Dosage: 6 mg/day of spermidine supplemented orally for 13 weeks

Oxford scientists find that spermidine, a naturally occurring molecule that declines with age, rejuvenates aging immune cells and improves vaccine protection in older adults.

Participants: Prefrail older adults
Dosage: 50 mg/day of losartan for at least 8 weeks

Losartan, a common blood pressure medication, increases the survival rate of mice and improves the metabolic outlook of pre-frail older adults.
