Dark Chocolate Compound Linked to Slower Aging, Study Finds

Elevated circulating theobromine—derived from cocoa—was associated with a slower pace of aging, according to two assessments.

A compound derived from dark chocolate, theobromine, circulating at higher levels, is associated with a reduced pace of aging.

Participants: Healthy male adults between the ages of 18 and 50 
Dosage: 714 mg/day of nicotinamide and 19 mg/day of pyridoxine for nine days

In a randomized human trial, combining nicotinamide with vitamin B6 increases stem cell activation and muscle-growth capacity in response to exercise.

Dosage: 1 mg per day of rapamycin for 8 weeks

Supplementing with rapamycin leads to improvements in cardiac and vascular function in older men, suggesting this longevity-associated drug may counteract cardiovascular aging.
