Based on discussions from his podcast and other social media posts Joe Rogan has taken the following supplements:

  • NMN
  • Resveratrol
  • Vitamin D
  • Omega-3 Fish Oil
  • Macular Support Formula
  • Glucosamine Chondroitin and MSM
  • Multivitamin
  • Alpha Brain Black Label
  • Shroom Tech Sport
  • Alpha Brain Pre-workout

Joe Rogan started his career as — and remains — a comedian. In the early 90s, Rogan played Joe Garrelli on the television show News Radio. He became more widely known for hosting the popular reality show Fear Factor in the early 2000s. Rogan has also commentated for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) since 1997. It wasn’t until 2015 that his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience reached critical mass, with 11 million listeners. The following are supplements he is known to have taken, according to Fast Life Hacks

NMN and Resveratrol

Rogan started taking NMN and resveratrol after his discussion with Harvard professor Dr. David Sinclair, who also takes these supplements. NMN is an NAD+ precursor shown to raise blood NAD+ levels in humans. NAD+ plays vital roles in energy metabolism and DNA repair that may boost energy levels and mitigate age-related diseases. Resveratrol is a plant-based molecule called a polyphenol that may counteract inflammation and oxidative stress, which are hallmarks of aging

Vitamin D

Biomedical scientist Dr. Rhonda Patrick has told Rogan of the link between vitamin D supplementation and reduced risk of respiratory tract infections like COVID-19. Rogan has also touted the vitamin as a preventative measure against COVID-19. Furthermore, 2000 IU of vitamin D combined with 1 g of omega-3s and exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of cancer by 60%. Notably, vitamin D has been shown to increase NAD+ levels in cells. Rogan has said he takes 5000 IU of the vitamin.

Fish Oil

Rogan has said he takes 3 tablespoons of liquid Carlson’s Super Omega-3 fish oil. Human studies have shown that omega-3s, encompassing both EPA and DHA, slow cognitive decline. Additionally, omega-3s were shown to reduce inflammation and the stress hormone cortisol. Furthermore, in rats fed a high-fat diet or a diet high in refined carbs, DHA was shown to counter memory loss. Therefore, taking fish oil supplements, especially in the absence of eating fatty fish like salmon 2 to 3 times per week, could help optimize cognition.

Macular Support Formula

Joe Rogan says he takes Macular Support Formula to counteract age-related vision loss. The formula contains ingredients like N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), which when combined with the amino acid glycine, has been shown to increase the lifespan of mice. Furthermore, the same combination was shown to reverse signs of aging in older adults, including cognitive impairments. NAC may counteract eye degeneration by mitigating oxidative stress. The formula also contains some but not all of the ARED2 ingredients, which may slow down the progression of age-related macular degeneration.

Glucosamine Chondroitin and MSM

Rogan takes glucosamine chondroitin or glucosamine chondroitin and MSM for joint health. Glucosamine and chondroitin occur naturally in our cartilage, which tends to degenerate with age, especially in individuals who overuse their joints by repeating the same movements across years. These movements include those performed during certain exercises, which Rogan partakes in regularly. Whether supplementing with glucosamine and chondroitin, which usually come together, improves our joints is unclear. MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) may reduce inflammation, which contributes to cartilage degeneration.

Multivitamin

Rogan has said he takes Athletic Pure Pack, which is not just a multivitamin. It also contains ingredients like creatine, coenzyme Q10, NAC, alpha-ketoglutarate, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). A multivitamin and creatine have both been shown to enhance memory. Additionally, animal studies have shown that alpha-ketoglutarate counteracts arthritis, coenzyme Q10 improves motor coordination, and EGCG prolongs lifespan.

Onnit Products

Onnit is a supplement company co-founded by Joe Rogan that was sold to Unilever in 2021. Rogan still owns 50% of Onnit in exchange for being a spokesperson for the company’s products. Onnit’s most popular product Alpha Brain has been shown to improve cognition, but other Onnit products have not been empirically tested. Rogan has said he takes Alpha Brain Black Label, a newer version of Alpha Brain. For a pre-workout, Rogan has mentioned he takes Shroom Tech Sport and Alpha Brain Pre-Workout

Personalizing Your Supplement Stack

It should be noted that Joe Rogan is on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which in combination with his intense workout routine likely contributes to his muscular, low-body fat physique at 56. While the supplements on this list may provide a boost in energy, focus, and motivation, they cannot replace a healthy diet, good sleep, and exercise.

Additionally, some may find some supplements more beneficial than others, which may depend on one’s current mental and physical status. Therefore, keeping the true power of the placebo effect in mind, one can determine whether these supplements work based on their own experience. In turn, one can personalize their supplement stack if they choose to take any supplements at all.
